The Philadelphia Union secured a remarkable 3-2 comeback victory over LA Galaxy at Subaru Park, marking their first home win against the Galaxy in history. Despite trailing with two goals in the first half, the Union fought back in the second half, scoring three goals, including a dramatic last-minute winner from Tai Baribo. This victory highlights the Union’s resilience, extending their unbeaten streak to five matches, while the Galaxy continues to struggle without a win in the season.
The Philadelphia Union achieved a historic 3-2 comeback victory against the LA Galaxy on Saturday night at Subaru Park, extending their unbeaten streak to five matches. This win marks the Union’s first-ever home victory against the Galaxy in the club’s history.
The LA Galaxy started strong, taking the lead with two goals in the first half from Mauricio Cuevas in the 31st minute and Diego Fagúndez in the 37th minute. However, the Union rallied in the second half, leveling the match with two quick goals within two minutes. Nathan Harriel opened the scoring for Philadelphia in the 48th minute, followed closely by Tai Baribo, who struck in the 50th minute to tie the game.
In a dramatic finish, Tai Baribo completed his brace and sealed the win with a goal in the 90+6 minute. This comeback victory is only the second time in the club’s history that the Philadelphia Union has erased a two-goal deficit in the second half to secure a win.
The match, attended by 15,539 fans at Subaru Park, showcased an impressive performance from the Union, who directed a total of 24 shots towards the goal with 9 on target. In contrast, the Galaxy managed only 4 shots throughout the match. The referee for the game was Fotis Bazakos, assisted by Adam Wienckowski and Diego Blas.
The Philadelphia Union’s lineup featured goalkeeper Andrew Rick and defenders Kai Wagner, Jakob Glesnes, Nathan Harriel, and Frankie Westfield. The midfield was composed of Jovan Lukic, Indiana Vassilev, Danley Jean Jacques, and Quinn Sullivan, while Tai Baribo and Bruno Damiani led the attack. Substitutes included Alejandro Bedoya, Mikael Uhre, Cavan Sullivan, and Olwethu Makhanya.
On the other hand, the LA Galaxy started with goalkeeper John McCarthy and featured key players such as Marco Reus, Diego Fagúndez, and Mauricio Cuevas. Following this match, the Galaxy’s record has fallen to 0-10-3, making them the only team without a win through Matchday 12.
Diego Fagúndez reached a significant milestone during the match, becoming the eighth player in MLS history to record at least 75 goals and 75 assists. He also achieved a record as the youngest player in MLS history to reach 300 career regular season starts at the age of 30 years and 89 days.
The Philadelphia Union will face Atlanta United FC in their next match on Saturday, May 17, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, the LA Galaxy will gear up for their next game against LAFC in the 25th all-time edition of El Tráfico on Sunday, May 18.
