A robbery occurred at a car repair shop in Mayfair, Philadelphia, where a suspect impersonating an ICE agent zip-tied an employee and stole $1,000. This incident highlights the alarming trend of individuals posing as federal agents to commit crimes. The suspect, last seen in a white Ford van, has not yet been apprehended. Police are seeking public assistance in identifying the perpetrator, as impersonation crimes continue to rise nationally, raising concerns about community safety.

Philadelphia – A robbery at a car repair shop in the Mayfair neighborhood of Philadelphia was reported on Sunday, June 8, 2025, around 2:10 p.m. A suspect impersonating a federal law enforcement officer, specifically an ICE agent, carried out the crime while claiming authority and security. This disturbing incident underscores a troubling trend of individuals posing as federal agents to commit crimes.

The suspect, described as wearing a tactical vest with the label “Security Enforcement Agent,” entered the car repair shop located on the 6400 block of Harbison Avenue. Accompanying this distinctive vest was a black baseball cap emblazoned with an American flag. Upon entering, he positioned himself behind the counter and zip-tied a 50-year-old female employee who was working there at the time. The robbery itself was executed quickly, lasting approximately 30 seconds.

During the brief but intense encounter, the suspect managed to steal around $1,000 from the business. After the robbery, he fled the scene in a white Ford E-250 van, which had several distinguishing features. Notably, the van was missing a back window and was adorned with red reflector stripes along the sides. Both the rear and passenger side cargo doors featured padlocks, and the windows were tinted.

The 50-year-old woman who was zip-tied reported experiencing minor bruises from the incident. She remained tied for about two hours until her co-workers were able to free her and contact the police. The suspect was last seen driving north on Harbison Avenue, heading toward Roosevelt Boulevard.

The police have not yet made any arrests related to this robbery, and they are actively seeking the public’s assistance. Surveillance images captured the suspect wearing black sunglasses and latex gloves, along with dark green cargo pants, which may offer further clues about his identity.

Authorities have strongly urged anyone with information regarding the suspect or the crime itself to contact Northeast Detectives at 215-685-3153. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via text at 215-686-TIPS (8477). Public participation is crucial in aiding the ongoing investigation.

This incident contributes to a growing national concern regarding impersonation crimes, particularly those involving fake federal immigration agents. In recent years, there has been an uptick in reported cases where impersonators have misled victims under the guise of law enforcement. These developments have emerged amid ongoing ambivalence and heightened tensions surrounding immigration enforcement in the United States. Such trends highlight the risks posed to communities and the need for vigilance in order to protect citizens from becoming victims of these deceptive practices.

As investigations proceed, the public is reminded to remain cautious and aware of their surroundings, particularly in uncertain circumstances involving individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers.
