Despite this increase in unemployment, Pennsylvania’s economy remains robust in terms of job creation. The state recorded a net gain of 4,200 nonfarm jobs in June, bringing the total number of nonfarm jobs to 6,225,600. This achievement marks the 14th consecutive month that nonfarm jobs in Pennsylvania have reached a record high.

Job increases were identified across seven out of the eleven industry supersectors from May to June. The most significant growth occurred in the education and health services sector, which added 6,100 jobs, reaching an all-time high. The leisure and hospitality sector also reported a record high in employment for June 2025.

Looking at the broader picture, Pennsylvania’s job market has demonstrated considerable growth over the past year, with a total increase of 90,000 jobs. Nine out of the eleven industry supersectors experienced job gains, illustrating a diverse expansion in the state’s economy. The education and health services sector led yearly job growth, having gained 45,800 jobs since June 2024.

This latest labor market data underscores the ongoing shifts within Pennsylvania’s economy, highlighting trends in employment and sector-specific growth. The rise in the unemployment rate amidst record-setting job levels presents a complex but dynamic economic landscape for the state.
