This strategic move is set to bolster the company’s capabilities and extend its influence in the industrial technology sector.

The company will continue to operate its headquarters in Allegheny County, while establishing a new hub aimed at fostering innovation and creating high-quality jobs in the region. According to company officials, the acquisition demonstrates their commitment to the idea that high-caliber manufacturing can thrive in Pennsylvania.

Job Creation and Economic Impact

The expansion initiative is anticipated to generate 111 new jobs over the next five years, significantly contributing to the local employment landscape. Additionally, the project is expected to create an estimated $20 million in local economic impact. To support this endeavor, Premier Automation has secured substantial funding, including a $222,000 WEDnetPA grant for workforce training from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), a $444,000 Pennsylvania First grant, and a loan from the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority totaling $2.4 million.

Establishing the Premier Innovation Hub

At the core of this expansion is the establishment of the Premier Innovation Hub, envisioned as a national model for industrial automation, workforce development, and technology commercialization. This facility will not only support Premier Automation’s manufacturing operations but will also host a venture studio known as Premier Labs. Premier Labs will focus on nurturing startups in the fields of manufacturing automation and artificial intelligence, aiming to launch five to seven new firms annually.

Strategically located, the facility aims to leverage the region’s skilled workforce while being in proximity to Pittsburgh, recognized as a hub of innovation. This positioning is expected to enhance collaboration with innovation-driven companies and contribute to the evolution of industrial technology practices.

State Support and Industry Focus

The efforts to facilitate this project received significant support from Governor Josh Shapiro’s BusinessPA team, emphasizing Pennsylvania’s focus on manufacturing, robotics, and technology as key elements of the state’s ten-year economic development strategy. The Secretary of the DCED underscored that initiatives like those from Premier Automation are vital for Pennsylvania’s economic revitalization and future growth.

Overall, the acquisition of the Westmoreland facility by Premier Automation signifies a bold step forward in regional manufacturing, promising advancements in technology and job creation. As Pennsylvania continues to position itself as a leader in automation and industrial solutions, the future looks bright for both Premier Automation and the surrounding communities.
