Reading, Pennsylvania — A 25-year-old man has been charged with attempted homicide after allegedly stabbing his 36-year-old sister nine times in their home early on June 2, 2025. The incident took place at approximately 2:40 a.m., prompting Pennsylvania State Police to respond to a 911 call concerning a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the woman in a bedroom suffering from life-threatening injuries, specifically nine stab wounds to her head, neck, and torso. She was immediately transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital; however, her current medical condition has not been publicly updated.

The suspect, identified as Eli Skyrm, was found inside the home and was in possession of a kitchen knife at the time of the police’s arrival. Accounts from the victim’s brother, who was in a first-floor bedroom at the time of the incident, reveal that he heard desperate screams coming from upstairs. Initially mistaken for a physical altercation, he later saw Skyrm on top of their sister and, upon turning on the lights, became alarmed at the sight of a concerning amount of blood and called for help.

Eastern Berks officers arrived on the scene to find the victim bleeding profusely. A knife was later found in a shopping bag along with bloody paper towels in the victim’s bedroom, indicating a possible attempt to cover up the crime. The knife was reported to have a broken and bent blade. Eli Skyrm was taken into custody in the basement of the home.

During interviews with authorities, Skyrm expressed animosity towards his sister, indicating that he blamed her for his recent breakup. He described her in highly negative terms, stating he viewed her as “pure evil” rather than family.

As a result of the stabbing, the victim suffered severe injuries, including a collapsed lung and fractured vertebrae. The tragic event underscores ongoing issues of domestic violence that can occur within families.

Eli Skyrm has been formally charged with both attempted homicide and aggravated assault. Following his arrest, he was committed to Berks County Jail without the option for bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 11, 2025, to address the charges against him.

Reading is located approximately 60 miles northwest of Philadelphia and has experienced its share of violent incidents. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise in domestic situations, raising awareness about the need for prevention and intervention resources in communities.

While the investigation continues, no further updates have been provided regarding the victim’s condition or the circumstances that led to the stabbing. Authorities urge anyone with information about domestic violence or similar incidents to reach out to local support services.
