Solar panels in Southwestern Pennsylvania

News Summary

The PA Solar Center is launching the GET Solar SWPA program to promote solar energy across Southwestern Pennsylvania. This initiative will provide technical and financial assistance to organizations looking to transition to solar power, offering access to financial incentives and qualified developers. An online meeting on June 25 will introduce this program, which aims to help businesses cut energy costs amid rising energy bills. The GET Solar initiative anticipates significant savings for participants, contributing to the state’s renewable energy goals.

Pennsylvania is set to take a significant step towards promoting solar energy with the launch of the GET Solar SWPA program, organized by the PA Solar Center. An online meeting and press event will occur on June 25 at 11:00 a.m. ET to introduce this initiative aimed at expanding solar power across the ten counties of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

The GET Solar SWPA program is designed to provide essential technical assistance and financial guidance for organizations and businesses looking to transition to solar energy. It will involve coordinated outreach with various regional partners to assist more entities in implementing solar solutions. These partnerships will be formally introduced during the event.

During the meeting, attendees will learn about various financial incentives available for solar installations, including federal tax credits, grants, and special financing options. These financial tools are crucial in significantly reducing the cost of installing solar energy systems. Participants will also gain access to qualified solar developers through the program, enhancing their ability to implement solar technology effectively.

The demand for solar energy solutions in Pennsylvania has become increasingly urgent. Energy bills in the state recently increased, with a notable 15% hike recognized on June 1. For larger energy consumers, the potential savings from installing solar systems could reach thousands of dollars. Given that current tax credits and grant programs are subject to changes and may be temporary, businesses are encouraged to act quickly to capitalize on these financial benefits.

A successful example of the GET Solar assistance program is Wesley Family Services in Westmoreland County, which adopted solar energy with guidance from the initiative. The organization anticipates approximately $700,000 in savings over the next 25 years as a result of its solar investment, covering around 78% of its monthly electricity needs.

The PA Solar Center is currently mapping the solar potential for non-residential entities through its PA SolarCorps program, identifying 1,185 organizations across 77 communities in Western Pennsylvania that could collectively generate up to 323 MW of distributed solar energy. The savings from these solar installations are projected to total approximately $973,807,000 over a 25-year period.

The anticipated financial relief provided by solar energy solutions holds the potential to enhance job creation, avoid tax hikes, and improve the services offered by nonprofits and faith communities. Organizations interested in learning more about the GET Solar SWPA program and participating in the online meeting can register for free, although registration is required to attend.

With the introduction of the GET Solar SWPA program, Southwestern Pennsylvania is poised to make significant strides in renewable energy use, positioning itself as a leader in solar energy adoption while supporting local organizations in their energy transitions.
