Philadelphia police are searching for a suspect who impersonated a law enforcement officer to commit armed robbery on Sunday, June 8, 2025. The incident took place around 2:10 p.m. on the 6400 block of Harbison Avenue in the Mayfair neighborhood.

The suspect entered a local business claiming to be a police officer and zip-tied a 50-year-old woman during the robbery. He stole approximately $1,000 before fleeing the scene. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect driving northbound on Harbison Avenue toward Roosevelt Boulevard in a white Ford E-250 van.

The description of the suspect is notable, as he was seen wearing gloves, a black baseball cap with the U.S. flag, a black long-sleeve shirt, and a black tactical vest labeled “Security Enforcement Agent.” He also wore dark green cargo pants and black sunglasses, which potentially hindered identification efforts.

The getaway vehicle, a white Ford E-250 van, has some distinct features. It has tinted windows, lacks a rear window, and has padlocks on the rear and passenger side cargo doors. Additionally, red dashes run along the midline of the van, marking it as a unique sight for anyone in the area.

Police were notified of the robbery around 5 p.m. the same day, and as of now, no arrests connected to this incident have been reported. Authorities are actively encouraging anyone with information regarding the suspect or the robbery to reach out to Northeast Detectives at 215-685-3153. Members of the public can also submit anonymous tips by calling 215-686-TIPS (8477).

This incident has triggered concern among community leaders, who highlight the importance of clear communication from federal officials regarding protocols for law enforcement impersonation to prevent further crimes of this nature. The necessity for the public to stay informed and vigilant is underscored by the nature of the crime, which involves a dangerous breach of trust in law enforcement.

Introducing greater awareness within the community can aid in deterring impersonation crimes. Local officials stress the need for better education about how to recognize authentic law enforcement personnel and what actions to take if an individual appears to be impersonating an officer.

The police continue to investigate and have committed to sharing updates as the situation develops. Residents in the area are encouraged to report any unusual or suspicious activity and to approach individuals claiming to be officers with caution.

As the investigation unfolds, nearby communities remain on alert, watching for any individuals matching the suspect’s description and keeping an eye out for the distinctively marked getaway vehicle. The safety of residents and their trust in law enforcement depends on the swift resolution of such incidents and the apprehension of those posing a threat to public safety.
