News Summary

Pennsylvania has achieved a historic milestone in gaming, with total revenue reaching $6.39 billion for the 2024-25 fiscal year, marking an 8% increase from the previous year. This significant growth resulted in $2.79 billion in tax contributions while showing diverse trends across sectors like internet gaming, retail gaming, and sports wagering. Major casinos like Wind Creek Bethlehem and Parx Casino led in table game revenues, while overall gaming revenue continues to play a crucial role in public funding and economic expansion within the state.

Pennsylvania has achieved a historic milestone in gaming revenue, recording an unprecedented $6.39 billion in the 2024-25 fiscal year. This figure represents an 8% increase from the previous year’s total revenue of approximately $5.89 billion during the fiscal year 2023-24. The increase in revenue has also led to substantial tax contributions, which reached roughly $2.79 billion, surpassing last year’s tax revenue of $2.54 billion.

Revenue sources contributing to this record-setting performance include both retail and internet gaming, as well as sports wagering. Specifically, retail slot machines generated $2.44 billion, experiencing a modest increase of 0.8% from the prior year. Internet gaming revenue saw a remarkable growth, totaling $2.48 billion—an increase of 27.09% from the previous fiscal year. Sports wagering revenue amounted to $487.6 million, having slightly decreased by 0.22% from one year prior.

Among the major casinos, Wind Creek Bethlehem led the category of table games, bringing in over $248 million despite seeing a slight decrease of 1.65% year-over-year. Parx Casino in Bucks County followed closely, generating $196.4 million in table games revenue, which was also down by 1.32% compared to last year. In terms of slot machines, Parx Casino outperformed competitors with $377.7 million in revenue, up by 0.19%, while Wind Creek Bethlehem generated $281.8 million.

While Wind Creek’s overall performance was strong, its internet gaming revenue declined to $18.1 million, representing a decrease of 20.6%. In contrast, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Racecourse reported exemplary results in iGaming, with a record-high revenue of $935.8 million for the fiscal year.

The contributions from sports wagering show varied results among different venues. Wind Creek’s sports betting revenue plunged to $489,195, marking a drastic decline of 54%, while Mohegan Sun Lehigh Valley reported $1 million from sports betting, down by 23%. Valley Forge Casino Resort in Montgomery County added $250.2 million to the overall gaming revenue, further accentuating the significance of these gaming establishments.

Other notable revenue streams included video gaming terminals (VGTs) at truck stops, which generated $41.4 million, reflecting a minor increase of 0.70% from the previous year, and fantasy sports, which totaled $19.1 million, exhibiting a slight decrease of 0.66% year-over-year.

The state’s gaming revenue has critical implications for public funding, as tax revenues generated from gaming activities are directed to various public interests and returned to the residents of Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue is responsible for making adjustments to the estimates of both revenue and tax amounts, ensuring accuracy in reporting and fiscal management.

This substantial growth in gaming revenue comes amid a broader trend of increasing acceptance and expansion of gaming and gambling activities across the United States. As many states continue to explore and develop their gaming industries, Pennsylvania’s record numbers position it as a leader in the sector, showcasing the vital role of gaming in contemporary economic frameworks.
